With the UK public transport infrastructure receiving much needed modernisation through a programme of major station refurbishments and rail infrastructure projects, it has created a requirement for a modern, robust ticket office design which compliments the contemporary aesthetic of stations and ticket halls; meets users’ needs and provides 21st century protection for staff.

In response to this Windell have, in conjunction with fit-out specialists, designed a range of ballistic resistant glazed products for the railway and cash transfer industry

Following extensive testing, a system was developed whereby the glazed window and the counter beneath, integrate together to provide a functional and aesthetically pleasing arrangement.

The windows are manufactured to suit site conditions and can incorporate DDA access and cash/document transfer trays. Depending on the threat, windows can be designed to resist both physical and ballistic attack.

A key benefit of the glazing system is enabling clients to integrate large individual panes into the building façade in an almost seamless manner, incorporating transfer trays and counters integrated into the complete design parameters.

The system has been designed to ensure that the client does not have to compromise their architectural creativeness, in the pursuit of protecting life and assets.

The glazing system can be adapted to suit clients’ architectural requirements and design constraints, including bespoke corporate colours and detailing.

The system is designed to be used for both primary and internal glazing depending on the site conditions and can be over clad with timber to accommodate architectural detailing.
